Beijing tops list of holiday destinations

KUALA LUMPUR: China is fast becoming one of the most sought-after travel destination among Malaysians.
Beijing topped the list of five favourite vacation destinations during the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair.

London, Shanghai, Kunming and Sydney followed suit in the popularity list by Malaysian Airlines during the three-day fair, which ends today.

MAS sales senior general manager Datuk Bernard Francis said China had always been a top attraction.

"We have kept fares to Malaysians' all-time favourite destinations low to attract more customers.
"Sales has been encouraging and we are optimistic of hitting our sales target of RM25 million," he said yesterday.

The airline is offering all- inclusive one-way airfares to Beijing starting from RM720, to London at RM1,450, Shanghai at RM640, Kunming at RM470 and Sydney at RM960.

Halal four days-three nights packages to Kunming are also available, starting from RM1,410 per person.

Bookings and purchases can be made at the fair or at participating travel agents, ticketing offices and call centres.

1) Badaling Great Wall, Ming Tombs ;





The thirteen Ming Tombs are the best-preserved Chinese imperial tombs with 500 years history. You will visit Changling, the head and the largest tomb of Ming Tombs, where Emperor Yongle (the first emperor in Beijing) and his Empress Xu were buried. The sightseeing on the Ming Tombs takes about 1 hour. The visit to Ming Tombs finishes at about 10h45.

2) Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace ;







Mao's influence on China's modern history. From there you will proceed to the Forbidden City, the largest and best-preserved ancient imperial palaces group with 500 years history in the world. Visit the Forbidden City along the central axis from south to north for 2 hours. Then you can visit Temple of Heaven -- the largest ancient imperial worship architecture group in the world where the ancient Emperors prayed for peace and harvest.

3) Beijing Zoo, Hutong Tour, Lama Temple ;



First, you can go to Beijing Zoo, where you can see the lovely Giant Pandas. The Panda Zoo visit takes about 40 minutes.Then take you to the largest Lama Temple of Beijing --- Yonghe Temple, 1 hour tour for the mysterious Tibet style Buddhism temple. Before having lunch (12:00), you may have to visit the Chinese traditional handicraft silk carpet factory. Then you might be arranged to visit the old Beijing lanes by taking rickshaws, Chinese quadrangles, primary school, many famous old buildings, like the bell tower, where you can explore the real life of ordinary people in Beijing.

4) Mutianyu Great Wall ;



Mutianyu is located North East of Beijing in Huai Rou Country, this section of the "The Wall" about 75 KM from the center of Beijing. As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, Mutianyu section of Great Wall used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs. If you want to get to the highest point and have a bird eye's view of this section of the great wall, cable car is a good choice (optional).
